Having been a farmer all his life, being on the land and running a rural business was in Don's blood and he has relished the challenge of jointly managing Potari Dohne Stud. The business was initially focused on Merinos, but after using artificial insemination for several years, Darryl, Allyson and Don realised the Merino was not capable of achieving their business goals. The Dohne provided an alternative that was suited to a wide range of climates, demonstrated healthy profit margins and had the dual benefit of producing pure white wool and high quality meat.
